On March 20th, SK On, a battery company under South Korea’s SK Group, announced that it had signed a battery supply agreement with Nissan Motor. This is also the first time that SK On has reached a cooperation with a Japanese automaker.

SK On plans to supply a total of nearly 100 GWh of high-performance, high-nickel pouch batteries manufactured in the United States to Nissan from 2028 to 2033. These batteries will be used in Nissan’s new-generation electric vehicles at its auto assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi, the United States.

Currently, SK On operates two battery factories in the United States, and there are four factories jointly built with partners that are under construction. Once all of them are put into operation, the company’s battery production capacity in the United States is expected to exceed 180 GWh per year.
